Question

Is there a way to optimize tape mounts for restore of non-collocated files that spread on many volumes?

Answer

The option filelist used with the restore command will optimize the tape mounts by minimizing the number of mounts of the same tape.

For example, if the filelist is composed of the following files:
file1 on vol1
file2 on vol2
file3 on vol

The restore will process the files in the following order:
file1
file3
file2
