Restoring Exchange to a Different Computer

by  globalstrata  Posted    (Edited  )
You can restore the Exchange 2000 Server databases and mailboxes to a new Exchange 2000 Server-based computer that you installed in either a new machine with the same previous server configuration (NetBIOS Name) or another machine with a different domain name all together. To move the current Exchange 2000 Server information to the new Exchange 2000 Server-based computer:

1. Create a back-up of all Exchange 2000 Server databases.

See Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 258243 for How to Back Up and Restore an Exchange 2000 Server Computer by Using the Windows Backup Program

2. Restore the Exchange 2000 Server databases in the new server.
3. Restore or re-create the Exchange 2000 Server mailboxes on the new Exchange 2000 Server-based computer.
