I'm getting DBBACKUP labeled on my available_media report on one of my policies everytime backups run. I did not setup a catalog backup on this specific policies and no database clients on this policies either. I'm also getting the ??? on the media report. My catalog backup on the master is running on the netbackup pool. Pls advise.

The available_media script may incorrectly list a volume's status as DBBACKUP.

Details:
There should, at most, be only two media assigned as DBBACKUP tapes and their media ID should match those configured for DBBACKUP within NetBackup Database Backup configuration. If other media have a status of DBBACKUP, the most likely explanation is that a NetBackup Media Manager server cannot be contacted by the NetBackup volume database host - normally the NetBackup Master server.

Verify that all NetBackup Media Manager hosts with active media are up and accessible to the NetBackup volume database host. If a Media Manager's services were moved to a new host or if an existing Media Manager host was renamed, please contact NetBackup Technical Support for further guidance in correcting the problem.

The status of an active volume is stored in the media database on the Media Manager host where the tape was written. If this media database cannot be accessed by the NetBackup volume database host, the available_media script will list the status as DBBACKUP. The available_media report is an informational report and does not actually set or change the status of any media.

Following on from Bob's reply, it looks like you've been bitten by the infamous available_media bug. I got bitten a couple of years ago.

..but this bug is still alive and well, as far as 4.5 FP6 at least, tho doubtful it'l be fixed as i believe available_media is classed as unsupported. Crazy as it's an excellent script - there is nothing in my site that can't be done without available_media as a baseline script..

Anyway, the fix outlined above also massively improves runtime of the available_media...

that's great HLui, however it's best to fix the bugs in available_media script before attempting to change status of tapes. Who's to say you're messing with the correct tapes :)
Hope Veritas support this script officially one day - better still hope they don't get rid of it. Using available_media there's nothing i can't achieve (ie automate/script/reporting/offsiting/manage tapes) - No need for Vault/any-other-expensive-add-on in our (RMAN) setup so far..
