Hello everyone,
I bought case from this server and I want to use it as case for my own PC. OK I know that I will have problem with AGP slot - thats no problem. The problem is with power supply cord - maybe someone have technical specification of the power supply? There are 24 pins and I don't know which pins I need to cut.

Please help

The Netfinity 5100 includes a single 250W, hot-swap power supply and a single 9 ft. 110V power cord with an IEC 320-C13 connector on the system end and NEMA 5-15P on the other end. Power supply redundancy may be achieved with the addition of the optional Netfinity 250W Hot-Swap Redundant Power Supply.

Moral of the story: This server case has a power backplane - you don't want to be cutting on this one.

This server (later renamed the xSeries 230) supports 2x1GHz PIIIs and up to 4GB RAM. If you need more than this for your PC, you bought the wrong case.

I found IBM p/n 19K4640, the 1GHz processor upgrade for the 5100. However, on the IBM site,

it says it's to be used to upgrade a 5100 that had a 933MHz processor only.

I can't find any other IBM p/n for a processor. I'm looking to upgrade my 5100 from a 667MHz to dual 1GHz if I can.

Correct. Some architectural changes are the limiting factors. On models < 933 MHz, the fastest CPUs you can install are 866 MHz. 933 MHz seem to be extremely scarce. The performance difference between the 866 MHz & the 1GHz is negligible, and nothing a little more RAM won't fix.

Ok then, I'll scrounge up a couple of the 866Mhz CPU's then and pop them in.

Appreciate the info on this!

Found some 866's at a good price, the 19K4630. Will I need anything else or is it as simple as putting in the new CPU's and changing to the multiple processor driver in the OS?

Yes, you will also need the appropriate Voltage Regulator Module (VRM). IBM part number is 36L8901.

Thanks.
