I have an XP home machine which has automatically downloaded the SP2 installation file and is now waiting for me to install the update. However, for the moment I don't want to install it on this PC because of all the issues (like BSoDs!) that are being reported. Is there a way to remove this file and allow me to make windows update relook for it when I want it to (I have switched off auto update already)?

Perhaps System Restore can be used in this situation. It will give you an "Undo" point in case you decide to go with SP2.

There are many people who have not had any trouble with SP2 so you could let it install and see how it behaves and then use the built-in removal options if you don't like it.

This seems to be one update where you really should take the advice offered about backing up your system before installing the Service Pack.

c:\windows\downloaded program files. But if you delete it, auto-update will just download it again!

For what it's worth, I have put it on both of my home machines with only 1 minor problem that was solved by reinstalling the video driver. No BSoDs, no crashes, no errors.

In my office the only problem we have encountered is that we cannot access some ftp sites with SP2, so make sure to check prior to usage.

Good luck,
