Hi everyone,

Take a look at the error below from my Event Viewer System folder. This just came up after the Update to XP Pro SP2.

Would really appreciate any help or info to point me in the right direction.

>----------------------------------------------------<
Event Type: Error
Event Source: DCOM
Event Category: None
Event ID: 10021
Date: 8/14/2004
Time: 9:51:56 AM
User: N/A
Computer: DADDY
Description:
The launch and activation security descriptor for the COM Server application with CLSID
{2A6D72F1-6E7E-4702-B99C-E40D3DED33C3}
is invalid. It contains Access Control Entries with permissions that are invalid. The requested action was therefore not performed. This security permission can be corrected using the Component Services administrative tool.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at >-----------------------------------------------------<

No new devices have been installed, and I had NO errors on the SP2 update. Restarted and everything came up normal as if the SP2 didn't happen. Although it did put a "service Pack" foler with a "i386" folder inside and put it not in my system volume but in my "work" volume wich is named "video"?? Unsure about this. but it is my largest volume in size (GB) maybe that has something to do with it?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Is this just a once off error or is it appearing numerous times?

To confirm your installation of SP2, type SystemInfo at a command prompt, or press Windows Key + Pause key.

Hello linney,

It shows up a minimum of 3 simultanious times over a period of seconds. Some times it will show up 3 times, the next boot it will show up 5 times, another re-boot it will show up 4 times. I haven't seen more than 5 times.

I have confirmed the SP2 service pack.

Since my posting I have tried eliminating some of the startup programs. Still get the error. I think it has something to do with a service.

If I could figure out what the long hex number is refering to might be a help.

Me Again,

OK I found the problem. A note for anyone using Network Associates Antivirus Enterprise edition 7.1, and doing the SP2 for XP pro. The McAfee Framework service will cause this error that I have noted in the begining of this post.

I tried uninstalling, re-booting, and re-installing with no success. Kept getting Kernal32 errors on trying to re-install. Downloaded McAfee Viruscan enterprise 8.01 and it installed without a problem. However Now I'm getting errors on launching Outlook. I have attempted to do a repair, and started getting the Kernal32 error again.

Well, thanks to M$ we go from an XP with holes to SP2 with problems running even it's own manufacturers applications.
Enough for tonight, I'll work on it more tomorrow.

The number (2A6D72F1-6E7E-4702-B99C-E40D3DED33C3) might relate to this Reg Key.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Ole\AppCompat\ActivationSecurityCheckExemptionList

Value.
"{2A6D72F1-6E7E-4702-B99C-E40D3DED33C3}"="1"

Don't know what help that is?

My guess:

Start, Administrative Tools, Services
The first Remote Procedure Call entry, Logon tab, click to enable Local System rather than NT Authority.

By the way, consider this (if it works) a temporary patch. Originally XP would use Local Authority for Logon authentication to RPC services, and SP2 changed this. But there are darn good reasons for the change.

I found the Key {2A6D72F1-6E7E-4702-B99C-E40D3DED33C3}
actually is the McAfee Framework service. I had to remove the Mcafee Viruscan 7.1 enterprise edition. Couldnot do a re-install because then I started getting Kernal32 errors.

But I purchased and downloaded Mcafee Viruscan 8.01 enterprise and it loaded up without an error, and now My DCOM issue is gone or resolved.

BUT, now I am having a problem with Outlook. When I try and run the "repair and re-install" I get the Kernal32 error.

McAfee report that the DCOM problem is with the Common Management Agent.

A download of v3.5 appears to have fixed the error for me.
