Is the machine you are attempting to install on a Pentium IV, by chance? If so, there is a Sybase problem. The best thing to do is to get the newer version (6.2, I believe). There is also a bulletin that describes a workaround solution. If this is your case, here is the workaround:
Problem Description and Cause
During the Sybase portion of the SCCS Release 4.0 Client installation the installation hangs. This could
be due to a crash of the Sybase OC-12 installation. As a result, the SCCS Release 4.0 Client installation
cannot be completed.
There is a known problem with the Sybase OC-12 installation on Pentium IV machines due to a bug in
Sun Microsystem’s Java Runtime Environment (JRE), software that is used by the Sybase installation.
Workaround
The following workaround applies to Windows 2000 Professional and Windows NT 4.0 Workstation
operating systems ONLY It is not supported on Windows 95/98 operating systems.
Please read the entire procedure before starting the installation.
1. Copy Sybase OC-12 installation files located in the Ase12clt folder of the Symposium Call Center
Server Release 4.0 Client CD into a temporary folder on the hard drive or a shared. Give the temporary
folder a name other than Ase12clt, as this name is later created during the Open Client install
Note: The Ase12clt folder uses about 140 MB of disk space.
2. Ensure that the files to be replaced are not read-only. Open a command prompt and change your
current directory to the temporary folder you created in Step 1 and enter the command: attrib –R /S .
For example, if the temporary folder is temp_ASE on the C drive, do the following at the command
prompt:
C:\>cd temp_ASE
C:\ temp_ASE>attrib –R /S
C:\temp_ASE>
3. Download the sy_jre1.1.zip patch from <
into
the same temporary folder you created in Step 1. Use the WinZip utility to extract the appropriate files
into the temporary folder. Verify that the destination folder is the temporary folder you created in Step 1
and that the new files will overwrite the existing ones.
Note: This patch file is also available from Nortel Networks as a self-extracting WinZip executable. You
can download it from the Meridian PEP Library (MPL) Web site. Download the sy_jre1.1.exe file into the
temporary folder you created in Step 1. To extract the files, double click on the sy_jre1.1.exe file. You will
see a dialog box. Change the default value of the “unzip to folder” field to indicate a path to the temporary
folder you created in Step 1. Make sure the “overwrite files without prompting” option is selected (it should
be selected by default). Click Unzip to extract the files. The files will be copied into the temporary folder.
Click Close to close WinZip.
The following files will be extracted by the sy_jre1.1.zip or the sy_jre1.1.exe files:

4. Start Sybase OC-12 installation by launching setup.exe from the directory where you copied the
Sybase installation files to.
5. The “Installation Type” dialog box appears. Accept the Standard Install option (the default) as the
installation type. Click Next to continue
6. The “Choose Directory” dialog box appears. The default Sybase location offered by the installation
program is: C:\Sybase. It is recommended that you change the default location to D:\Ase12clt, which is
the default location used by the Symposium Call Center Server Release 4.0 Client installation. If the
installation drive is not D, it is recommended that the installation folder name is Ase12clt on whichever
drive the Sybase OC will be installed on. Click Next to continue.
7. The “Summary” dialog box appears. Click Next to continue.
8. The “Create Directory” dialog box may appear. Click Yes to create the installation directory.
9. Sybase installation continues automatically. If the Sybase installation program asks you to overwrite a
DLL, choose No (do not overwrite the DLL).
10. Sybase installation asks you to re-boot the server to configure installed components. Click Yes to re-boot
the server.
11. After the re-boot, Sybase installation continues and completes automatically. Wait until the “Install
complete” message appears on the screen. Click OK to finish the Sybase OC-12 installation.
12. At this point, Sybase OC-12 installation is complete and you can now start the Symposium Call
Center Server Client Release 4.0 installation. Symposium Call Center Server Client installation will detect
the pre-installed Sybase OC application and it will skip this step. Follow standard procedures to install the
Client software.
