I have inherited a small LAN network of XP Pro computers and on some of these computers in the contol panel under administrative tools there is no securities policies and on others there is, I was wondering if reinstalling XP will cause these to be installed or not.

It's likely a custom mmc console set up by someone. Reinstallation will not put it there.

You should consider managing security policies at the domain level if possible.

Kelly Theriot notes:

To resolve this behavior, customize the Start menu:

Right-click the Start button, and then click Properties. On the Start Menu
tab, click Customize. On the Advanced tab, under Start menu items, click
System Administrative Tools.

Administrative Tools Group Does Not Appear on the Start Menu

Automated Edit:

Restore Administrative Tools (bottom left)

more specificly if it would help is the problem lies in accessing Local Security Policy, although I might just se if I can figure out how to set up a roaming profile, but that is another thread.

I think at one point I tried that and the file was not present.

Start, Run, %windir%\system32\secpol.msc

If it still is not found:

Start, Run, sfc /Scannow
Have your XP CD handy.

Also, right-click My Computer, Properties, Advanced, Environment Variables.

Check the value in the lower box for your path variable. It should include c:\windows\system32 along with other values.
