I'm not sure which forum to post this in, Quark, Windows or Acrobat but here goes...(I've also posted this in the Adobe Acrobat forum)

I just upgraded to Acrobat Professional 6.0 from Standard. I updated to 6.0.1 and my print settings were changed. I can no longer print to file from Quark. I need to set up a "print to file" port in Windows 2000 Pro and I don't know how to do this. My computer WAS set up to print that way before I upgraded but Adobe changed my settings and my Print to File port is GONE, not just disabled, gone.

Does anyone here know how to set this up again?

Did Acrobat not "install" an Adobe PDF printer. It doesn't show that it will print to file, but it should distill your documents automatically. It does with me. I actually just deleted my "print to file" printer because I didn't need it anymore. Check your printers and faxes view and see if Acrobat created this for you.

At last, I have discovered instructions for setting up the FILE: Print to File in Windows 2000/XP using Quark 6.x. This procedure has worked with Acrobat 4 and 6.

Start --> Settings --> Printers

Double-click "Add Printer"

Click Next in the Add Printer Wizard Window

Click ONLY "Local printer" leaving everything else unchecked

Under "Use the following port:" scroll down until you see the FILE: port, then highlight it --> Next

NOTE: If you do NOT see a FILE: port, Click "Create a new port:" and choose Local Port. Click Next and enter the port name "FILE:" all caps, with the colon. After a few seconds, you will be directed to the next window below.

It may sound crazy, but select the manufacturer and model of your printer to be "Apple" and "Apple LaserWriter II NTX v51.8" --> Next

"Keep existing driver" --> Next

Leave the default printer name and choose "Yes" for the default printer (optional) --> Next

"Do not share this printer" --> "No" to print test page --> Next --> Finish

You can double-check your work by going back to Start --> Settings --> Printers, right-click on "Apple LaserWriter II NTX v51.8" and choose Properties. Under the Ports tab, there should be a check mark next to "FILE: - Print to File - Apple LaserWriter II NTX v51.8."

Good luck!
