Hey Everyone! Love the forum and i'm a first time poster...

As my handle implies, i'm a newbie to Avaya / VOIP / PBX in general.

I've been asked to block a particular phone number from making incoming calls to our company. I've dug through the topics quite a bit here and haven't really seen anything relating to this yet. What is the 'standard' way of blocking a number like this on my system?

Hello:

Is the number you are trying to block coming in on a number that has an associated vector/VDN to it? Or is it just an extension for a phone, group of phones?

build an ext and then add it to the off-pbx-telephone station-mapping ( along with the offending number ) Then add a new cor and on pg 1 of the cor in the Field "Calling Party Restriction" select origination. This will block the particular phone number from making incoming calls to your company.

This is the part that's really frustrating being new to all of this...

The number is used as a 'listed-directory-number' that's the only reference to the extension. From there this number somehow miraculously points to several operator extensions at our company. These operator extensions are members of hunt groups but there's no real identifying factor as to how incoming calls are directed there. And because there are no defining labels in our trunk groups i'm not even sure where the incoming call treatment is being made. DDOG6601: Your solution sounds solid but is a little hard to understand. I'm not a buff on Avaya.

There's a FAQ on these forums on how to use EC500 for call-blocking.

Basically, the EC500 mobility feature lets the PBX associate cell #'s to those of your internal users for which it is activated. By associating the offending CLID of the person annoying you to a phone with no permissions, their calls are stopped dead in their tracks in the PBX before annoying your users.

Do you know the trunk group number the calls come in for the listed directory number? If so you can simply do a "display inc-call-handling-trmt trunk XX". Simply replace XX with what the trunk group number is the calls come in on. This will give you the mapping of the external number to whatever internal number is being used.

Unfortunately I don't know what trunk number the call is coming in on, but the EC500 call block method with xmobile worked perfectly. Thank you!

Using a Station for off-pbx will tie up a license. Off pbx programming for CLID to me seems cumbersome.

Install CDR software or look at Utility server for CDR report. Once you have that it should show you what VDN its coming in on. Then build a step in VEC goto step 8 if ani in table 9 @ step 8 disconnect ADD VRT 9, name blackhole, add numbers to block and that's it!

We don't block undesired calls from certain numbers internally through our PBX, but via our SIP trunk provider.
We administer that through our customer web portal. It has got a section where you can enter phone numbers, you don't want to get calls from. They get blocked then.

That is easy and maybe your provider offers that too.
