Please help! I have purchased a used Micros 3700 system as Oracle/Micros wants to charge me $23 000 for a new one. The used one has data in there that I would like to delete without deleting the software. How do I delete the previous owners info: their name, their staff info, their sales stats, etc. If there is anyone out there who has great knowledge of this system, please, please help. If you would like payment for your help, I am willing to do that too. I am extremely desperate to make this system work for us.

You will need to change the name in POSCOFIG.
Using clear all totals for sales, labour, etc will get rid of most of the information in the database.
Did you transfer the license codes to yourself through Micros?

Hi, I will try that when I get my machine. I am buying it used and the owner is bringing it to me next week. Are you able to walk me through the process via Facetime or Skype and I could compensate you for your time? You would be doing me a huge favour if you can. If not, I understand. What is POSCOFIG? No, I did not transfer the license code. Is that a necessary part? The owner is from another province and he is bringing the machine to me. I've tried asking Micros to transfer the data over to me, but they want an arm and a leg for it. They basically want me to purchase new equipment. I guess my question then is: if I do not change the license over, then is the machine no good and cannot be used?

how much are you paying for the system and how much are you willing to pay to make the system useful? How many stations?

If you buy a new system from either Micros or someone else, you will get a number of things like training, programming and a warranty. Before you spend good money, you should consider what you're getting into. You may find you're not a good candidate for a used system that likely does not meet the PCI specs nor can be made easily ready for EMV later this year.

I am getting the system for $5000. I am willing to pay someone a few hundred dollars to get going for me with the proper data. I am in Canada. What is PCI and EMC?

EMV are the chips in the cards, something coming to the US later this year. Canada already has them. PCI are the rules for credit card security that you agree to when you setup your merchant account.
Not knowing how big the system you're getting is, I can't say whether it's worth $5k. I think realistically, you should plan to spend more than a few hundred dollars on installing, programming and training on it. Plus it does need to be licensed. So let's say you end up spending 10k altogether on it and don't relicense it. It's a used system, probably running XP or older seeing as Micros is already suggesting you replace some of it. You probably won't be able to do CCs on it unless Micros will change the software for you. You may get a few years out of it, hard to say and if you really know the software, all the better.
If you spend the $23k with Micros, you will likely get about 8-10 years out of it, a warranty and I would think training and programming was within that cost. It isn't really all that bad a deal but if you're going to spend that, you should look at some other systems. You might be able to get something for $10-15 and still get the 8-10 years out of it.

@PosGuyUS, Perfect explanation and this is what I tell other clients.
