Does anyone have an example of a valid CompVer.txt file? The manual says this:

"Verify Type - Enables the user to assign a number between 1 and 3 to validate
an employee comp. This field requires a file titled COMPVER.TXT in
ALOHAQS\DATA with the following requirements in the text document:
• Employee Number in positions 1-10
• Employee First Name in positions 11-25
• Employee Last Name in positions 26-41
• Comp Type in position 42"

I'm not quite sure how to format that text file so that everything is in the right position. If the employee number is only 4 digits, do I put those 4 digits in positions 1-4 or 7-10? And what do I put a zero or a space in those other positions? If someone has just an example of it that would be really helpful.

I answered my own question with trial and error. Blank spaces are filled with a space, and using a monospace font like courier makes it a whole lot easier to fill in. I'm not sure why this function was implemented in this way. It seems like it wouldn't be difficult to populate the list of employees eligible for comps from the employee database file. There could even be a field in the employee page of the maintenance function that allows you to enter the verify number. That would also make it easier to maintain the list so when employees are terminated they are removed from the list at the same time. Oh well.
