Hi,

I have a Merdian Norstar Compact Plus system with 2x NTBB30AF-93 cards.

We currently have 1x BT PSTN phone line on a single number. We have 4 desk handset.

BT (TalkTalk) have installed an extra line on the same number as line 1.

If I plus a analogue telephone into the new 2nd line and dial the main PBX number all four of the desk phones ring and can answer the call. If I dial the same PBX number while the first call is still active, my analogue telephone rings. This is all good and means my lines are working.

The 1st and 2nd line are patched into a DP box and then go off to a single BT telephone socket. The first line socket has an old analogue answer phone which kicks in after about 5 rings. The second line socket has my analogue phone.

Also from the DP box a pair of wires go to the Compact+ PBX and are connected to TX202 (label on PCB)

My questions are:

1. What connector on the PCB do I need to patch the second line to
2. Is there any programming required via one of the handsets to get the 2nd line to accept incoming calls and be available for a 2nd outgoing line.

Many thanks

I guess that this is a question for me to try and help you with. Going from memory as I haven't seen one of these for a while, you need to look on the Norstar system for the L32 Krone connector. I think the analogue phone lines started at Line 31, because lines 01 to 30 would have been used for ISDN 30 trunks?.

You would need to make a connection from L32 onto the BT Network DP box where the wire currently goes to the BT Master socket that your analogue phone is plugged into.

By default, Lines 31 to 34 would usually ring all of the digital phones. At this stage, you would need to log into the phone system via a digital phone such as a M7310 or M7324 etc to alter the analogue trunk programming.

Best to contact me via my link below as we don't put this kind of stuff on the threads!.

Thanks Firebird,

I can see L31,L32,L33,L34 on the PCB next to bottom connector, but my first line is connected to the top connector #3

Would I connect my 2nd Line to top (Red) or bottom (Blue) at connector #2 (L32)

Is there any other way we can make contact. I don't use LinkedIn and don't want to pay for their Inmail system.

Thanks

That Norstar must be strictly a UK system cause I've never seen a Compact with those krone blocks like that. Very interesting though, makes me wonder why they didn't use bix being that it's a Nortel product.

Oh yes, it's a UK version. We did things differently across this side of the pond. Still a good product despite it's age. Simple to work on. Remote access is a pain on the Compacts as we have to use a downgraded E-RAD to connect via NRU.
