I have set up our faxes so the line will ring busy by setting the LINE for BUSY. That works ok as long as the call is in progress. What happens when lets say a call comes in the fax answers but the other side hangs up for some reason. While the fax is still waiting to recieve a fax and is toning but has not yet defaulted to hang up and a new call comes in to that fax instead of the line ringing busy asit normally would on a regular analog line because the line is "off hook" the call starts to ring. I don't kknow were it is ringing or how to make it busy until our fax machine has reset itself and hung up. Any suggestions?

Too many appearances on some DN it sounds like.
Give 1 Intercom and 1 Appearance on the ATA's maybe?.

Is it the same fax machine that does not know to disconnect?.

Try setting the ATA for DND on busy and see if that takes care of your issue. As long as the system see's that
the ATA is still offhook it should kick back a busy signal to the calling fax.

I am using a DID on a PRI and not an ATA. I set it for 1 IC and 1 Appear and then DND on BY and it will only give a BY when the outside call is in progress and I place a call behind it.

Your fax should be connected to an ATA that's what converts the digital station to Analog.
