After a recent Windows Update, Winfax Pro is no longer working.
When I "print" to winfax, nothing happens. If I quickly look at the printers from the control panal, I see one document waiting for winfax. After several seconds, the document dissapears.

As a side issue, a new printer showed up at the same time, called "Greatland". I couldn't figure out what it might be attaced to, so I deleted it. But that did not make any difference in whether winfax worked.

Is this your personal PC or an office PC?

It's my personal PC, running Windows XP Pro.

So you had a printer just "appear" out of no where? You hadn't installed anything hardware or software wise? Needless to say that is not a normal thing to happen. I would start buy going into the Add/Remove Programs and removing any Printers you didnt install or dont use any more. Double checking the Printers and Faxes section under the Control Panel and remove and lingering ones. Run a CCleaner on the registry to remove any excess reg files.

Are you the only user on this PC? If not, I would be asking what the others have done lately to backtrack this issue to when it first happened.

The extra printer is not of concern. I have deleted it. I just thought its appearing after the update might shed some light.

The real problem is that WinFax Pro is not working. As I said above, documents go to its spool, then disappear.

I forgot to answer your other question. No, no one else has access to my computer.

Stupid question I should have asked first, did you roll back any updates that had just recently installed? Or did a System Restore back to a date before the Updates installed?

Did you run a CCleaner scan after removing unused printers. I understand that the random printer isn't THE concern, but if I saw random things appear on my PC, I would want to know why especially if no one locally has access to the PC.

I figured out where the printer came from. It is not an issue. I don't know what a Cleaner scan is.

Do a registry scan, backup whatever it finds before you delete it, it will ask you to before you can delete it. If you run the application scan, make sure to look over the check boxes because it will find and delete whatever it is told to. If you have any questions, Google or repost.

Ill bite, where did the printer come from or are you just trying to get me to drop it? If it came from installing another program, that could be the cause of the WinFax issue. These may seem like random questions, but we dont ask them for our health, only to help.

Yes, it did come from installing another application, but no, it had nothing to do with the problem as I installed the other application some time ago and never noticed the new "printer" as it was at the end of the list, after "Photo Quality Fax", which I never use.
