Hi Guys

I have a BCM450 rel 1 with 30 IP phones which has started to reboot intermittently.

When i arrived at the site the Power led was RED and the customer had tried to reboot it twice.

I have changed the power unit and the system worked ok.

The voice mail was the only thing not working properly and by that i mean it seem to default back to
Initialization stage with only 1 language option ARABIC. nothing in the drop down list

I applied the latest patches supplied by my tech support. desktop 6 and SU16
This patch fixes intermittent reboots
Reinstalled call pilot F982 , password,1 ,reinstall

Sill the same issue with call pilot. only 1 language showing
also the PRI card would not come back on, still flashing with resets and reboots.
I had to power down the sysem to get the pri card to work

Now the customer rang me to day to say the phones have gone down again.
and system is restarting.
Pri card not coming back on unless you power off completly.

I am going to change the hard drive when i get a chance to pick one up.

To recap
So power unit changed out
HD going to be changed out.

Would the PRI card cause a reboot of the system.
I really dont have much problems with these cards.

Any thoughts

Are you behind a UPS? Is the system near any generators or AMP's? Soemtimes if you are using dirty power the fluctuation can cause an issue like this. If not on an isolated circuit you may want to get on it grounded back to that circuit. Do an Ohm test and if you fluctuate over .5 Ohms this is a dirty circuit.

I must check if its on a ups .
It is in the comms cab.

BCM 450 rls 1 has a very bad power supply Ive changed all of ares out as this was happening.

I had the same problem as you two Months ago. The customers 450 r1 kept rebooting, but it was never at the same time as it varied between 1 hour and sometimes up to 4 hours.

We did the same as you and hit a major snag with Avaya. After ordering up a complete release 1 unit, we migrated across the keycode. Avaya no longer support release 1 and they would only give us a release 5 keycode.

The customer always did weekly external backups and as you know, they are simply no good for a later release. Also we didn't have a release 5 hard disk with us and even if we did, wouldn't want to spent many hours rebuilding the system as this customer hadn't had proper service for two days.

Anyway we hooked up the serial lead for boot up tests and after deciding Avaya were of no help to us, we took the customers BCM 450 apart. The weak point was found to be the small central circuit board in the centre of the chassis that the power unit, Motherboard and module cables connect onto.

We reckon that it was this componant that was getting hot and breaking down after a while. Once that was replaced, the BCM stayed up OK. This was good news as we kept the original Motherboard / Hard disk together.

All the best

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

Firebirdscrambler that is a good precise information.
I think i will have to change the HD anyway because off the Voice mail not re installing or try a level 1 reset via Putty CLI commands.

I will look at the power connector board and order one up if it goes again after this.

Thanks Snowman50. Did you know that you have also access the menu's via the serial port. Make sure you use 115200 baud rate.

It's interesting watching a BCM 450 boot up. You see a few "fix it" messages that appear, but don't on the 400 version.

Tried the Factory reset and Level 1 reset still same issue with voicemail.
Hard drive factory image must be corrupt.

Changed hard drive with 450 multi image HD.
Use PUTTY and set HD to 450 rel 1
Logged in and set country, date ,line configuration etc
Applied keycode file
Applied patches
Checked voicemail working in english language.
All OK at this stage

Restored an earlier version of an old backup. cust site hadn't change much since install.
Voice mail service stopped for ages and had to manually start service

That cause my voice mail to do weird things such as cant use feature 980.
Feature 981 worked sort of but would say cant continue when accessing mailbox..

Shouldn't have bothered with the restore as it was a simple site to reprogramme.

Did a reinstall off call pilot F982, password,1, reinstall.

Programmed mailboxes and now all working !!!PHEW.

IP phones all working.

I hope that fixes things .
