I have a Compaq laptop running Windows XP and my useable com ports are numbered 5, 6, and 7. I now have to work on older phone systems that use software that only recognizes com ports 1-4. When I go to Device Danager to change port numbers I get an error message that says I need write permission. Does anyone know how to change Windows XP to give myself write permission when I am listed as an administrator-level user?

We've all heard that a million monkeys banging on a million typewriters will eventually reproduce the entire works of Shakespeare. Now, thanks to the Internet, we know this is not true.
