I bought a copy of "Android Recipes A Problem-Solution Approach" by Dave Smith and Jeff Friesen and found that it is worth every penny. There is a lot of UI, communication/networking, SQLite database, device hardware, media examples and much, much more. It has helped me reach that never ending "next level".
