New forward lookup zone times out when resolving via VPN

Dear All,
We have a DC with zone abc.org and added a new zone xyz.local this resolves fine on the internal network but when a user connects via cisco vpn client the DNS times out.

I have integrated this into all DC in the AD domain, is there any other way to resolve this.

Your help is highly appreciated.

Thank you

Can you ping or traceroute (tracert on windows) to the DC? You may have a routing or NAT problem with your VPN.

Are your VPN connections firewalled? Make sure port 53 traffic is enabled.
