I have a DX150R running V8 and we had a lightening strike a few weeks ago which trashed the card to the point it would not even boot to smi.

I have bought a replacement of the same rev. but it was from a duel processor DX and the Nival.dat is set to 1.0 and not 0.0 so I cannot FTP the config on to it as when smi loads it has to nival to load setting from and when i ping from it to my pc, or any address for that matter, I get host unreachable. In fact it will not even ping it's own address. The link lights are on the system card and the PC and to iliminate any other causes I have connected the 2 dirtect with a X over cable.

Can anyone offer any advice on how I can resolve this?

First things first, unless you have already checked.

Switch 1 on the card elements 1, 2, 3 should be 1=on, 2=on, 3=off,
this tells the card it is a single processor.

Check the the Mac addresses on the card and write them down, (there should be x 2)

Next connect to the v24 at 9600bd put switch 9(little switch at the top into the down position and press the reset button at the top leaving switch 9 in manual.

The card will then load and come back with some thing like this:-

1, Check the ETHACT/MEDETHACT addresses are correct, (Mac addresses).
2. Over write the IPACT statement by using:- se IPACT=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx,(subnet mask in hex).
3. Over write the AUTO Statement :- se AUTO=0.0/xabcd567.app what ever your software is.
4. Delete NIVAL, se NIVAL=

5, Press reset and list again to check all is correct.

While in SMI list the directory it should be something like this:-

Now try pinging the IP address with a cross over,

Assuming you have a back up of your old config you need to delete the file xxxxx890.app,
and any other files not needed,
Dos commands = DEL xxxxx890.app from the v24 port + xxxxx890.hrm.

Log onto Telnet BUT with without a password,(you have deleted NIVAL) this can but put back later.

If this works FTP your config backups to 0.0 xxxxx890.hrm/xxxxx890.app.

If you get this far let me know and we will see if we can get further on.

It was the mac address's.

When I entered the ones on the card in SE I was able to get in and FTP the files over. The only problem i have now is that i cannot FTP from the DX to my PC and get the error below:

dosfslib: ILLEGAL FILENAME

I am using procom plus.

Try using ws_ftp95, its what most Realitis/dx engineers use, download from:-

http://www.ccs.uottawa.ca/software/wsftp95.html

Set Host type to either Microsoft NT or Automatic, leave port at 21.
You will have 2 x windows, left one is local, right Host.
Its then just a matter of highlighting the files required and using the left/right transfer buttons.

When telneting to a dual processor, drive 0.0 is accessed first(Ram on card) you can then change to the media card by changing directories to 1.0 and back to 0.0.

Also do not forget the NIVAL command, if you removed this from the environment statement you do not require a password.
if NIVAL is still present the password is either ... realitis .... or .... REALITIS these can only be checked after the system is loaded by using the lnic command.
