I am trying to use an old Cisco 3524 switch to set up a training room, but it will not power the phones. The ports are configured for auto-power, but no lights. Is this possible?

The Cisco 3524 does not provide the correct PoE. It was manufactured before the standard was set for PoE. Cisco jumped in early on the powered switches and this was their version. Unfortunatly for Cisco, the standards group picked a standard that was different than Cisco's early version.  If you look on the front of it it says Inline Power, not PoE. It will ONLY work with Cisco 7940, 7941, 7960, and 7961 era phoness.
