Vanity Plates "Lucky" XIII (3)
|
|
Another gold-"plated" milestone...We're starting our Lucky 13th Vanity Plates thread (since our previous thread has exceeded 100 posts and is slow in loading).
Over Spring Break we travelled from Utah to Phoenix (via Las Vegas)...Saw these great plates/tags:
CODESLZBAG (On an Arizona Ford SUV)
JAGROAR (On an Arizona Jaguar Sovereign)
SSAFLAH (On a Nevada car which I didn't get until I read it in my rear-view mirror)
 Mufasa
(aka Dave of Sandy, Utah, USA)

Or the Mercedes was part of a divorce settlement and the car went to the B**CH. <grin> Mufasa (aka Dave of Sandy, Utah, USA) "People may forget what you say, but they will never forget how you made them feel." |
|
Santa, somehow I don't think that the ex-wife would want that plate. It's plausible, I will concede, that the ex-hubby had the title and registration in his name alone, which would prevent her from changing the plate to a general issue plate. -- Francis There are laws to protect the freedom of the press's speech, but none that are worth anything to protect the people from the press. --Mark Twain |
|
Quote (Francis):Santa, somehow I don't think that the ex-wife would want that plate.
I dunno, Francis...I don't think any of the female stars of the TV series GCB have a problem with the term. Mufasa (aka Dave of Sandy, Utah, USA) "People may forget what you say, but they will never forget how you made them feel." |
|
GCB, however, is fiction, and bad fiction, at that. -- Francis There are laws to protect the freedom of the press's speech, but none that are worth anything to protect the people from the press. --Mark Twain |

I totally agree ! Mufasa (aka Dave of Sandy, Utah, USA) "People may forget what you say, but they will never forget how you made them feel." |

Saw this over the weekend. Though the use of Arabic (is that the right word?) and Roman numbers was interesting
JHN 3 XVI
For those of you who have never seen a ball game (from the USA) it is John 3:16. djj
The Lord is my shepherd (Psalm 23) - I need someone to lead me! |
|
==> Though the use of Arabic (is that the right word?) and Roman numbers was interesting
Yes, Arabic is the correct word. The '3' is an Arabic numeral.
I think perhaps the reason you see the mix is that you would not be able to fit the entire reference with Roman numerals ( JHN III XVI ). Nor could you use just Arabic numerals ( JHN 316 ) because that's a standard three letter three digit license place and may already be used. --------------

Huh?!? I understand what John 3:16 is referring to. I have no idea what the ball game reference means.
|
|
Oh, ok. I feel kind of silly pointing this out, but I believe "John 3:16" is referring to a certain chapter and verse in a well known book, and not some nut with a rainbow wig in the 70's and 80's.
John 3:16
|
|
==> I believe "John 3:16" is referring to a certain chapter and verse in a well known book,
Absolutely.
You asked about the ball game reference and that reference is to Rainbow Man, who himself references John 3:16 at sporting events, i.e., ball games, on his t-shirt or by holding up signs for the camera. --------------

I've been known to collect a few pics of these where I see them:
Dr Who drives a Merc?
Bought by an ex-partner perhaps?
For a judge? Or maybe a repeat offender?
Not so easy to see - but this taxi cab plate reads T11P ME...
A plate in case you weren't sure what the car was?
This plate is on a van advertising a gentleman's club... Perhaps a little close to the bone?
Perhaps a farmer has a small cow? I'm Scottish, this makes sense to me :)
Driver has dreadlocks? Is a boy scout? Who knows:

That reminds me. One time a long time ago I was behind a pink car that had a bumper sticker that said "Honey Hips". Intrigued by the possibility of a cute girl, I sped up to see who was driving. Behind the wheel was a big hairy, overweight, unshaven, burly, truck driver looking guy. At that point I seriously hoped that the car belonged to someone else and he was just borrowing it.

Anyone ever see a quizz show called Bumper Stumpers? (pathetic, but I was without a compensatory engagement and had a lot of time - and need - to veg and limited no of cable stations). It had a short run - the show, not my involuntary sabatical.
I like the story about the guy that picked NO PLATE after his first two choices were turned down and police officers being wont to write NO PLATE on parking tickets for cars with no plates, got 2500 parking tickets from all over the state, don't know which state. |
|
Quote (kims212)I like the story about the guy that picked NO PLATE after his first two choices were turned down and police officers being wont to write NO PLATE on parking tickets for cars with no plates, got 2500 parking tickets from all over the state, don't know which state.
I heard about that. There was also a guy with the plate NONE (in Nevada, IIRC), who had the same problem.
Poor planning of of the ticket violation system (and poor training of data entry operators) are to blame. You have manual entry of a plate number, and no way to indicate on the paper ticket that there really is no plate (i.e., the vehicle is not registered or the plate is missing/stolen, etc.), you'll get this nonsense. Maybe once police departments move to electronic ticketing there will be a checkbox to indicate that condition. In such cases, they ought to scan the VIN of the vehicle for identification purposes.
And back in 1979, a couple in Connecticut with he first names of Irving and Anna had had the personalized plate set IRAN on their car for many years. When the hostage crisis provoked some nasty threats, they opted to change to anonymous, regular-series plates instead. -- Francis
