Using Fedora 14 with gnome desktop and Win7 theme.  I use the Window List applet to show each opened task on the taskbar.  For the past week I have double the list so if I have one task active I have two buttons, 2 tasks active I have 4 buttons. I cannot find anywhere to remedy this.  Any gnome experts have any ideas/solutions?

Thanks all

Are there perchance two process of this applet running?  Have you looked at the ps output to verify?

Thanks for the thought.  But no, I cannot see multiple applets running.  Only the multiples that are necessary.
Today I went through all my gnome and compiz config files and still found nothing that looks like it would control that.
And not everything is doubled, just mostly applications when running.

Next thought: did this start occurring after a point which you can identify, such as an update?  Have you tried reverting to an earlier version to see if there is a conflict?

Thanks for the thoughts.  I cannot think of any "updates" and this has occurred before and lasted for a couple of weeks then disappeared.  Now its back.  I can't even find a way to kill this applet/widget and restart it.
I was hoping someone with fedora/gnome/compiz experience might have seen this before and know the where and why of it.

Thanks again.

Kind of an off the wall suggestion, but if your running into black holes for solutions, I understand that a lot of the core Linux developers hang out in the IRC rooms, you might want to poke your head in there and see if anyone has a suggestion or can even point you to the actual app developer.

have you checked the applets running in your panel?

close all applications
right click where the window list appears (you may have to hunt around a bit to find the correct place mine show a little handle so they can be dragged)
select remove from panel

the above worked for me

Computers are like Air conditioners:-
Both stop working when you open Windows

Thanks IPGuru - I don't know why it worked but I right-clicked on the pane and click on each of the items in the popup list (couldn't see the text as it must have been white on white).  The result is that I now have only ONE button per task. ?????

Thanks everyone  smile
