Hello Everyone, I just joined the forum since I would like to get an advise for the MSProject 2010.

I have a new column named as Project Status (Open, Postponed, In Progress, Closed).
I want to have different background colours for each project status.

How can I achieve this?

Hi AA,

Project does not have a "conditional formatting" command like Excel or Access.

I don't believe you can set background color automatically except through code.  You would need to loop through each task, check the value of the custom field and then set the color through the Cell.CellColor property.

As a suggestion -- have you considered using graphic indicators in the column to stand for each of the status selections?

I have another question on Ms Project :) Can i export in Pdf only the columns with the tasks and not the gantt chart? So i can print the project tasks in a big A3 paper?

My setup isn't currently configured to output a PDF file (so I can't test it) but this should work:

There is a heavy line dividing the text data from the Gantt chart.  Click-and-drag that line all the way to the right.

To restore the Gantt, go to the right hand side (adjacent to the vertical scroll bar) and drag it back.

To add to PDQBach's answer, you can also choose to display the Task Sheet view -- it is the left side of the Gantt Chart view without the Gantt chart.

Not really.  I was a contributor to the MS Project newsgroups several years ago but found that the areas where I could contribute almost completely overlapped Jan De Messemaeker's and he must be in Europe since he invariably posted before I could!

I found this site and found I could add some value so I stayed here.  My priorities have "sort of" changed but I would check back occasionally to see if I could help out.  With you here, I feel comfortable stepping away again because my answers (as good as they often are) just don't quite measure up to yours.

My biggest gripe is that, too often, people post and get a workable answer but they either don't even bother to leave a message saying "thanks" or even click on the "thank you" link.  Of course, it's possible that my answers didn't deserve the thanks ... but I've seen some very good answers of yours that should have had a "thank you" and they didn't so perhaps it's not just me.

You're right, Jan is in Belgium and is usually on the newgroups/forums long before I've had my first cup of coffee.

Thank you for your kind words -- but don't step too far away -- your answers are spot on.

I agree it is sometimes a bit "thanks less" bit of a hobby.  But every so often you get a very nice thank you that makes your day.  Trust me, your answers do deserve thanks and this forum does a very nice job of making it easy.  Still many don't and I don't really know why.
