I have went through all the threads, ok most of the threads regarding SMTP configuration. I have a IPO V2, 6.0(18) running VM Pro. There is another thread with a similar subject, but I didn't want to hijack it.

In the dbgview log you can see companyabx.com (not real name), however the only place that is listed is in the email of the user account (voicemail@companyabx.com <- actual email account). All other locations, VM Pro Control Panel and IPO>System>SMTP is set to the IP address of the local email server. I can login to the smtp server via telnet (port 25) and create messages without any issues.

Any help would be appreciative.

Did you telnet to the IP address or to the name of the mail server?
There could be a problem with the firewall blocking the IP Address or domain name of the mailserver.
It happened to me once, i could setup a telnet connection using the IP address of the server but not to the DNS name of the server.
It happened to be the firewall were the domain name was blacklisted for some reason.

I am using the IP address only. Even though the customer has internal DNS resolution available, I wanted to keep it consistent to the IPO SMTP tab programming.

Is your operating system windows7 or windows2008 Server?

I've seen this before on those operating systems the alterations in the control panel are not written into the registry. So when you check the connection everything is OK but the actual voicemail to e-mail doesn't work.

After manual correction of the e-mail from adress and the smtp server address everything started to work.

Still have to mention it to my BP so they can tell avaya.

HairlessSupportMonkey:

I have verified that I can send email via a telnet session. The email arrives with no issues.

So this leads me to believe it's a VMPro/IPO issue. I did look at the registry and all was correct there as well.

Do you run the VM Pro service with a system account?
If yes then try it with a local admin account.

Well, I know ( I read it ) that you can send email via telnet but from what IP?.... the same of the SMTP server? Other IP?

Can you try from the same IP of the IP?....

What type of SMTP is the server? Windows 2008/2003 etc.. SMTP server?

Are you using this smtp server from other aplicattion outside this server...?

- The VMPro is using a user account with Administrator privileges

- I can send email from any address on the network via telnet. At this time I am unable to remove the IPO from the network and attempt that IP address. But it would be safe to assume (yes, all jokes here please) there wouldn't be an issue with the IP address of the IPO.

- The SMTP server is a customer's third-party based smtp relay server on a separate server other than the VMPro. If at last resort, I can use the Windows 2008 Server used for the VMPro to also run a separate SMTP server. Rather than using the customer's third party application.

I am also having a similar issue with SMTP on an Avaya Apps Server VMPro (Linux). I currently have a case opened at Avaya and hopefully I will be able to apply lessons learned on that to this current issue.

I appreciate all the replies and hopefully I have answered all the questions asked. Let's put this on hold until I am able to work with level 3 engineers at Avaya. I will keep you all posted on the progress.

Escorthosis, how did you manually fix this? I believe that I am running into the same problem on Windows 7 Voicemail machines.

I am using the IP address only. Even though the customer has internal DNS resolution available, I wanted to keep it consistent to the IPO SMTP tab programming.

You say that the name resolution works.
what gets returned for the MX record of companyabx.com?

Have you run a wireshark trace of the SMTP attempt? If so, what address does the wireshark trace say that the VMpro server is trying to send mail to?

CSMTPConnection::Connect: Could not connect to the SMTP server companyabx.com on port 25. Error 10060 [0x274c] (A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.)
This message suggests to me that the VMpro service is (incorrectly) trying to attach directly to the companyabx.com mail server, rather than the realy server that you have programmed. I assume that companyabx.com is the true external mail address of the compnay. Try creating an alias address for a user say fred@companyabx.local and send email to that address from VMpro (you may also need to do the same for voicemail@companyabx.com to voicemail@companyabx.local)

Take Care

Matt
I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

OK.. I was messing around with this night before last and I guess I got it to work, the customer started receiving their voicemails. I'm not really sure what I did exactly. If anyone needs the settings I have, post back to this thread and I get them for you.
