i have a cics w/ 4.1 software that is doing crazy things since i installed the 8 port station expansion card.

1. if you unplug any set and plug it back in the indicators continualy blink. u have to power the whole system down and back on to get date and time.

2. the time is not keeping up and is falling behind.

3. there is a delay when u press a digit and it being displayed on the screen.

iv reseated all the cards. mayb a software upgrade required?

any thoughts?....thanx.

deffinitly going to have to do that. just an update:

when i log into the switch w/ the fastrad it will display the set on the screen. but it will not display the date and time nor allow me to get into the programing.

Well that didn't go to well. When I pulled the expansion card out the system would not come back up. When I put the expansion card back in it lost all of itz programing. To make matters worse every time I change an extension it gets frozen on 'update' till I power down and back up. Any further suggestions greatly appreciated!

Maybe a startup would help? It sure would not hurt and might clear what ever is in there.

Power down, then within 15 min **startup (reg password) Will reset unit to factory defaults.

okay....when all else fails read the manual right!? so reading the manual it states:

"You cannot add the Expansion Cartridge to a system using a restricted feature cartridge that has not been upgraded."

then it states...

"You can upgrade your restricted feature cartridge by entering a series of Software Keys you obtain from Nortel Networks. This will add an additional eight ports for Norstar telephones. Refer Software Keys on page
255 for more information."

the 'feature cartridge' is software right? so i have to upgrade the software from 4.1 to the new 7.1? i also think i have the wrong expansion card. this card is both a 'clock services card' and an expansion card.

input appreciated....thanx!

Does the software card label say that it's restricted? If so I'd recommend at least R6.1. The expansion card also has a clock built in. The expansion card should have a telephone logo and a clock logo printed on the bezel.

okay so I powered down and pulled out the 4.1 software card and put in a 7.1 and now the entire system won't come back up... sets continue to blink. What am I missing!?

Can't go straight to R7.1 from R4.1. Boot up with the R4.1. Then do a F**STARTUP. When the display says "Applying template, pull the power, put in the R7.1 software, then power on. Give it up to 10 minutes to boot up.

exsmogger is right that should work and all the expansion cards are also clocking cards, just ignore that.

would have been nice for the distributor to tell me that huh? i tired doing a restart yesterday with the 4.1 and it got hung up on 'applying template'. i pulled the power and it came up but with all the same problems.

im pointing the finger at the expansion card. everything was fine for years till i put this thing in. id like to take it out but the system wont operate now without it. does anyone know the procedure for a 'de install' of this card?

is there a difference between 'startup' and 'fast start up'?

thanx for hanging with me...

When you pull the expansion card and reboot it should do a cold restart and come up default. It may take a few minuits.
