If I want to have the phones go directly to voicemail after hours, how is it best done with one button programming

Setup a Ring Group with the only assigned DN being the main Voice Mail DN (Determine by F985). Point the appropriate lines to be answered by that Ring Group. Make the appropriate DN the Control Set. Program a Night button (F871) on that set.

Thanks what is a ring group? Do you program in the Call Pilot or on the telephone set?

All programming done on the telephone set in system programming. Ring Groups are under "Services".

I am coming in after the fact. Why do people use Night service?

Isn't it true that somebody calls and there's no answer and the AA gives options to dial the extension, or leave a message.

The night service as i understand it would do the same thing on zero rings...is that correct?

Not necessarily correct, but for the most part correct...

Say the receptionist is gone for the day or for a coffee break, the receptionist can hit Night Mode 1 (or Evening/Afternoon) and forward the calls to another extension -or- re-direct callers to the AA, which will also answer the incoming lines and let the calling party re-direct themselves.

Night mode is a versatile tool, it re-directs calls to where you need it to be answered!

AA gives the options yes, if you have it set to answer after 0 rings 24/7 then you dont have a need for Night Service.
If AA is backup only say after 3 or 4 rings then Night Service will override to answer right away....think of it as a forward key in a way.

This is one of my replies to another thread in BCM forum for Automatic Night Service that would start at 5 PM and allow you to override during the day:

Go into Services/RingingService/RingingGroup/01/Scan and remove 221,Show set 343 (voice mail DN) an Assign it.

Go into Services/RingingService/SchedNight/ and change to Auto, press next until you see Line settings and add all your lines to group 01.

Go into Services/RingingService/CommonSettings/ControlSets/forLines and make it receptions DN for each line. This in case you want to override night service.

Go into Services/RingingService/CommonSettings/ScheduleTimes/ and change each day to 5pm or whatever you require.

Program a F871 key on reception set to override if need.

did everything you said for the BCM 200

Go into Services/RingingService/RingingGroup/01/Scan and remove 221,Show set 343 (voice mail DN) an Assign it.

Go into Services/RingingService/SchedNight/ and change to Auto, press next until you see Line settings and add all your lines to group 01.

Program a F871 key on reception set to override if need.

Want to mention that the BCM software is slightly different paths eg Schedule services/commonsettings/schedules

Got all that okay...but programmed button doesn't override

If it's not allowing you to override manually, try building the Evening mode as manual, and assign it the same ring group. Program a f871 button on the control set, and push it as needed.

Chnaged to Manual Manual Feature 871 is denied in admin

Make sure that you are not trying to use the same night service that is set for AUTO. Try using lunch or aftenoon.
