EDI - EDIFACT - Where to begin with purchase etc messages

Hi Group,
I've been asked to design/develop an EDIFACT messaging system. In Microsoft Dynamics we have, e.g., a purchase order. My customer wants to sent this p.o. to the supplier via an EDIFACT message.

A few years back I did a similar thing for an Energy system.
So I know that for every request (in this case a p.o.) you need to use a certain EDIFACT message.

My questions:
1 - is EDIFACT the standard to use for purchasing, order delivery etc? If not, why? And what standard should i use?
2 - I am unable to find the messages I need to use for the purchase proces, let's say:
- purchase order message (send by my customer)
- purchase order message (received by the supplier)
- goods send message (send by supplier)
- goods received message (send by my customer)
- goods payed message
etc.
etc.

Since there was a problem with this post I had some research time and found:
http://edigenie.com/content/view/87/42/

Are the messages:
ORDERS, ORDRSP, etc the messages that I need?

Thnx.

Yes, X12 is typically US while EDIFACT is an international standard.

As for your trading partner, unless they are just starting out they probably have a preferred standard.
