Does anyone have any idea?  If I remember right, I think Be Inc. sold the rights to BeOS to Palm.  Does anyone know if they will continue to develope it, or if they plan to make it open source?  Is there a good website to find updated info on Be (www.benews.com is dead)?

i don't know what holds the future for beos (though it doesn't look promising), but you could start looking for information at:
http://www.belinks.com/

good luck :)

BE aren't developing BEos any longer, and sorry to say they

Hi! As to the future of BeOS, there is still hope. A German company found at http://yellowTab.com is developing a release of BeOS called BeOS NG. There is also the OpenBeOS project. And then the project the Be, Inc wad working on (Code Name: Dano BeOS 5.1. I also have heard of a Japanese company that is working on a BeOS release of its own.

So, while the future maybe be unclear. BeOS isn't dead just yet....see the postings at BeGroovy or OS News.

BeOS itself can't be released as open source because Be used licensed code from some people.  However there are a couple of projects creating open source versions of BeOS.
OpenBeos is using the NewOS kernel and rewriting the rest of the OS from scratch.
BlueOS is essentially taking the linux kernel and XFree86 with much optimization and fine-tuning.

Search the archives of www.osnews.com for more information.

As magick said above, there is a Beos 5.1 floating around on the dark side of cyber space.  It might not be worth your time though, I understand it breaks compatibility with some applications.

I think that you had better hold on to your hat ladies and gentlemen. BeOS has not gone away. There is a push for OpenBeos. That would be similar to the outdated linux systems. Palm Inc. ought to just release the desktop version source codes and keep the BeIA for the mobile market. OpenBeOS is on its way. Just wish I was smart and young enough to write code. Too many smart people are working on it now.
