I have a question for you guys. I have a pretty big SCN out there. 430 total users on like 8 sites. it is supposed to get as big as like 14 sites. I was told that phantom users do not count towards the 500 user limit. THis does not make sense to me. I was told only users on a port count. I know i can break the SCN into smaller networks but this customer likes all the SCN features. Ihave looked thru the knowledgebase and can not find a refernce to the phantoms not counting.

Along the same lines..

I know having a Voicemail Pro at each site on an SCN is not supported.. But, I think that is poor development by Avaya. If a customer does not have the resources at the current time to have 1 VM Pro to host 2-5 sites, and they all get their own VM until their infrastructure can handle it, they would have wasted all that money.

I have done SCN's with up to 8 sites, all with their own VM, not 1 issue.. Maybe someone can clarify the dangers of that.. I always believed in clean programming and preperation.

H382,
I have a few sites like that. all with VM pro and voice networking on. I was told by someone at avaya that it will work without issue but never be supported.

That's what they've told me too.. but.. I guess I can see why they wouldn't support it, because if you're not careful I can see how it can go TOTALLY bad.. So they just nix it to begin with..

As for your situation.. I'll be in the same boat soon.. One company has 30 sites.. 20 with IPO already.. 8 are on SCN.. the other 12 are either waiting to be upgraded to 4.1, or just haven't gotten to them yet.. So.. I'm ready to push the limits.. I'm also ready to break it out into seperate SCN's if it just plain goes to hell.

Working good so far...

If you read this you would think you are right !
THe ipoffic elearns extensions and names but they only talk about 500 extensions across a SCN !

IP Office systems linked by IP trunks can enable voice networking to form a Small Community Networking (SCN). Within an SCN the separate IP Office systems 'learn' each other's extension numbers and user names. This allows extension calls between systems and support for a range of internal call features, see Supported SCN Features.

IP Office Small Community Networking is supported for a maximum of 500 extensions across up to 16 IP Office systems.

Avaya state that the SCN should be set up in a star formation, this is why its limited to 500 users, if it were a mesh formation then the limit could be much higher.

ChristainF, that's the way I currently have mine, in a star config.. You can also have it setup in a chain/star combo. Site A connects to B,C,D and D is connected to C, E, F, G

When I start getting higher up in my sites, I thought about having one "hub" in the northeast, possibly NY, one in Charlotte where I'm from, and then one in LA for the west coast. Right now everything comes through Charlotte, and is OK.

I wonder why the star limits them to 500 users though. I'm not seeing the difference the topology makes when it's going to learn the extensions anyway. The only thing I can think of is the "main" site will be housing all that information for all sites, therefor taking a toll on its resources more so than if it was broken up.

It is al about the memory
Indeed the main system learns all the user and group etc etc
If there is not enough memory it will give problems

It also has BLF updates and stuff like that. with more than 500 it will be constant traffic with just updates.

Right now the main site is a 412, with about 120 users.. Only using VM Pro and CCC.

I'm about to put in an IP500 at their data center, which is also in Charlotte and I was thinking about making that their "Main" system. It will have no users on it.. Going to serve multiple purposes though. Conferencing for the entire company, incoming/outgoing trunk failover, etc.

Right no the 412 is only using 14% of it's memory, so I feel I'm OK right now.

You could do that
If it has no users and only has trunk and shortcode you are save
