Hello,

I recently set up a laptop with windows xp with a wireless router.  I installed a linksys wirelss usb adapter and a linksys wireless router.  All were installed and they seemed to both be seccesful.  The laptop will not pick up the router.  a second laptop found the router but the one is not picking up any networks.  I've refreshed and even tried a second smc usb wireless adapter and still nothing.  Any ideas on what I can try?

You might want to review all the documentation and maybe reload the driver software for the adapter. Going thru the install step-by-step, you may have missed something and that maybe the cause of the failure. Verify your options and settings in the Network Control panel, etc. It could be something as simple as a workgroup parameter.

You might also compare the settings on the other laptop that does connect and work.

Is there a way to get that wireless connection in the laptop?  I am thinking it is definatley the laptop cause I am able to pick up the router and someone elses router on 1 laptop.  THe other one isnt picking up anything.  I installed 2 usb wireless adapters. Guess about all I can do is try again.  Thanks

Did you try following any of the suggestions mentioned in my previous post?

I believe even the Linksys manual has a limited amount of troubleshooting info. Other sources of info besides the web: try your local library, and most book stores.

You need to configure the wireless adapter to match the wireless setting on wireless router, if not it won't work. Ensure you have installed the adapter driver correctly, check its driver status to confirm. Also check your labtop, and make sure you turn on the wireless switch (check you labtop manual to learn more).

Here is how I configured the Linksys wireless adapter, you might take a look if you like.
