Does anybody know how to set IP for Winspm Socket 2

I need help.... I would like to set the Ip Adress on my merlin magix system to login remotely from my computer and I just don't know how to do it. I already have the winspm socket installed in my computer, I don't have any other software. (Do I need another piece of software?)

I also have the Interractive Northwest DB25 TO RJ45 Adapter.

Can you guys help me solve this incovenience..

Sorry, I don't. I don't use Socket Magix...it's a rather expensive solution. If you really have the whole kit and kaboodle, I assume that this executable resides in one of the directories where the software was installed.

Use the Windows search utility and scan your drive, beginning at the root. See what you come up with.

FYI: I have found the best solution for Ethernet administration for the Merlin is a Digi One SP, ethernet to RS232 adapter. Cost about $150. It is very easy to install on the Merlin, and includes a software driver that can be loaded on to any PC's anywhere. It can use fixed IP address or DHCP, I prefer fixed. You set up WINSPM to direct connect to the COM port chosen(1-8) when you installed the software driver. I have over 50 Merlin locations on a Wan that work flawlessly. You only need an Digi One Sp @ the Merlin end. Check out Good luck

Merlinman, NO. Once the driver software is loaded on a PC, you go into WINSPM and set the Comm port to match the comm port chosen during the driver installation. The driver is the only software needed. Each adapter plugs in at the Merlin admin port just like your PC would, 25 to 9 pin adapter to 355AF adapter, D8W cord to admin port. And of course a connection to a LAN. It is really cool.

So the Driver on the PC also let you input the remote device IP address ( Digi One SP ), correct ?

ie

Magic -- RS232 ~ RJ45 / IP <----> PC driver Commx/comx WinSPM

Oh man, this will solve my problem with Norstar / Fastrad to IP

I use cheap computers with spm installed on them and use logmein.com to get to the PC through the internet.

I use WinSPM V9 to a Socket at numerous remote sites.
udsip.exe is on the disk that comes with it. It allows you to take the mac address of the unit (the unique number on the back of the socket) and and add a static IP address to it. You need to be on that segment to actually activate the usdip file, and the Socket need to be connected to the LAN with the a CAT5 LAN cord. The disk also is used to upgrades your SPM to winSPM V9, but you have to have at least SPM V5 to start out with.
When you set up the site, you click tcp/ip , add the IP address and use port 10001. Works like a charm every time, and they stand up to a power smack or lightning storm.

I had a very nice conversation with memphisribs this afternoon, and the device he uses is a lot cheaper than the Socket Magix. (Like only $150.00)

It is not quite as easy to switch from system to system, (It requires a small change in the Device Manager), but that would be a fine trade off considering the savings of up to $1000.00 over the cost of the Socket Magix.

Yes, DIGI makes excellent hardware!

The Digi One is a one port terminal server for serial interfaces to Ethernet. They make other versions also. Lantronix is another company that make similar devices (terminal servers).

If you get the Digi Port Server TS2, you could put both the Admin and SMDR ports on Ethernet for remote or other access.
