I have an area that doesnt want to continue to spend money on Cold Fusion license which we have used for the past 7 years. Instead they want free PHP.

My arguments for keeping CF is simpler to get out web applications, simpler to train people and saves time and quicker development time.

PHP has more coding compared to CF? For example charts and graphs are quicker shorter code in CF compared to PHP. For shorter Graph and Chart PHP coding, I think you need to purchase a 3rd party software in PHP?
And alot of Cold Fusion programs like flash output, pdf output comes with it where as PHP needs extra 3rd party software to do the same thing?

Now I want to hear the advantage of PHP over Cold Fusion and why we should switch from Cold fusion to PHP??

Hi :)

Don't forget that there are lots of libraries for PHP.
See for example.

As for chart drawing, here is a free one : ( there are lots of others )

But some people get extra pleasure when they pay ;)

I have not used ColdFusion since 2000 so I cannot speak well on the differences. Do you need to pay a subscription license or have you already paid all that you need to?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

PHP is not free. You need to weigh the cost of training and reprogramming your current services. The benefit of a GPL development environment like PHP is scalability with minimal cost once you leap over the training and reprogramming hurdles.

Adobe.com just put a lot of its services on ColdFusion and their site has come to a crawl in some areas. That does not seem like a good way to advertise their goods.

...oh yeah...

PHP can be used to chart graphs and output flash and PDF. Some third party tools are commercially available but I have gotten by with free options.
