Hello everyone,

I have a quick question.

I have a fresh box that needs an OS installation. I need to install the raid drivers prior to the os installation.

I boot up the windows cd and hit F6 at the setup screen when it displays "Press F6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver.."

It then prompts to "press the S key to
specify additional devices"

The system then prompts for the drivers diskette.

Unfortunately, the server doesen't have a floppy drive.

The setup does not prompt me to specify a path or logical drive. It looks as though I HAVE to load them from a floppy disk.

Other than buying a usb floppy drive, does anyone know of any alternate methods or techniques on how to get these drivers installed w.o a floppy?

Thank You all.

To load these drivers Microsoft requires a floppy drive.

Sounds like MS needs to update their installer, eh? :)

damn, I thought there might have been a work around.

thx everyone

Just pop the box open, plug a standard one in with a ribbon cable, just to get the OS up and running. Once the OS is loaded, shut the the box down and pull it out. Sorry man...

I wish it was that easy, the server has no ide and floppy controllers.

Not sure if this idea will work out for you but its something to try.

Download the the HP utility to create a usb bootable drive.

Basically you can create an emulation of a floppy disk and put your drivers on it.

In your system bios you should be able to setup your usb to emulate a floppy, probably need to have the usb drive in the port prior to post to see this option. set your bios to boot from cd first then save and reboot. do your normal install and when you F6 to supply the drivers it should see your usb as the A:\floppy.

excellent, I will give it a try thank you.

I tried the HP Utlility but it doesen't seem to work. I believe you need an HP USB key for it to work properly. I wen't threw the steps but it stated that there would be a components DIR avail but I don't see anything created on the key.

Hey guys, I tried it again and it looks like it might be working now b/c it's trying to read data from the usb key.

I'm getting a different error message though.

"The file txtsetup.oem could not be found"

The only file I have on the usb drive is the image file.

Maybe try to create a blank text file named txtsetup.oem on the USB flash drive??? Not sure, but its worth a try...

I got it working with the nlite software. I cloned the cd and added the needed drivers to it and created a bootable iso.

Thanks a lot for the help everyone.

Sheesh, what a horrid, convoluted thing you went through here. I'm surprised there aren't any better solutions out there.
