I have just purchased a Magnavox MWR10D6 DVD-RW/Player.
I am having problems with some DVDs which I made on Sony DVD-RW 4x disk of some old home movies of my son. I made the old movie cds on my computer using Nero and I am on a Win XP Pro computer. I know my DVD Recorder finalizes disk it copies from the tv. So could it be a problem that the software did not finalize the disk once I finished? Is there a software I need? or do I need to do something else with the old movie dvd disk so that it will play on my new dvd?
Thanks

It could just be that your DVD player isn't compatable with the disc's that you are using. Try another brand.
I use Nero & have seldom had a problem. The only problems I have had was with one of my DVD players, that wouldn't play the disc's. You could see if you are able to change the firmware on your DVD player. Check the manufacturers website for details.

See if the disc can be read in another DVD player or a DVD-ROM (not DVD burner) on a PC. There's probably nothing wrong with the discs, and as the previous poster commented, it could be the brand or type of disc (+ or -) that's not very compatible with your player.

One thing I have to ask - are you sure you're creating a video DVD rather than a data DVD with video files on it? You can check: use Windows Explorer to see what's on it and if it contains VOB files, it's a video DVD.

Yes I am sure I am making a video dvd. They played on my old dvd player (not a recording one). I am using the right kind of disk but the new dvd recorder will not reconize the disk. I think it has to do with the dvd recorder has to finalize the disk if you burn something in it but I can't get my disked burned on my computer to work. Any suggestions?

If you are choosing "DVD-Video" from Nero Burning ROM's selection list, then it is finalizing the disc automatically. If you look at the options on the menu before you select "burn", it will show you the finalize box is checked and greyed out, not giving you the option to uncheck it. So that's not the problem.

Simply, your DVD recorder for whatever reason is likely just having problems with that particular brand you are using. If you are currently using +R, try buying a small 5-pack of -R discs to see if your DVD Recorder has better success. Or, you could try a different brand of the type you're using now. I recommend Verbatim or Nexxtech (which you can pick up at Circuit City for cheap). I strongly urge you to try doing both a different type AND a different brand...
