hi folks

our internet connection was working fine up until this morning when the connection failed and hasn't worked since.

can't load up any webpages through internet explorer.

we connect to the internet through a router which has established a broadband link and dsl connection from the ISP but still cant logon to the internet.

Would this be a problem with DNS or something else. How could I check what the problem would be. I have disabled the server firewall.

My isp told me it sounds like a firewall between the server and router.

How do i check that?

Ran the event log and one of the warnings said unable to send packets to server.

When I did a nlookup, default server not found

Call your ISP if you have a managed service.

Failing that, it's down to your ISP to replace the router - usually.

What happens when you try to tracert -d from the server to the ISP's dns server address?

Make sure your DNS is setup correctly.

DNS Settings:

Configure the server NIC to only list itself, no ISP DNS gets configured on the NIC TCP/IP properties.

In DHCP, set the DNS scope option to only provide the IP of your local DNS server

For any statically configured IPs, make sure the DNS only lists local DNS servers and not ISP DNS.

In the DNS snap-in on the forwarders tab enter your ISP DNS.

Use tracrt or ping to see if you can get IP connectivity outside your network.  Pinging yahoo.com is usually a reliable test.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark
