I want to create a DCL batch file on VMS to Telnet to a site, log onto the site, send a command, and log off.  I can get the file to telnet to the site, but it does not log on.  Instead it interactively asks for the username.  The code is below.

Could you tell me what I'm doing wrong?

$ ASSIGN/USER SYS$COMMAND SYS$INPUT
$ SET HOST/TELNET ipaddress
username
password
attrib -a posfile.txt
exit
$ exit

rmunson,

A very similar question was posed on HP's ITRC forum the other week at http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1036086

To summarize, some versions of TELNET can be used to create a scriptable session. My personal preferene is to use C-Kermit, which has a very powerful and well-documented scripting facility.
