Newbie here --

I designed a report in reportnet using prompts. When the report runs, instead of having blank fields in the prompts, the values from the previous user are displayed.

I've searched all the properties and options and cannot find a solution to clear the prompt values from the previous user each time the report runs.

Please help.
Thank you.

Go to the Report Properties. Click on "Run with options". Set the appropriate property for "Prompt Values". In this case, Select the "Prompt for values" box.

Thank you, but I have already tried that. It clears the prompts for this time, but not for the next.

Any other suggestions, Please?

Change the report security settings.

In security settings, DENY write access to all users, groups, roles.

Of course if you are the owner of the report, when you run the report your prompts answer will be saved as well.

So you could create a ReportCreator user and make him the owner of the report , this way no prompt answer are saved. And don't use this user to run reports...

have the same issue.

but how can I create a user and make him the owner of a report?

Hi! If you can log on as the "ReportCreator" user, you can open the properties of the report and there is a link to "Make me the owner". Another way would be to use the SDK.

Creating a user , it depends.

If you have Access manager , then do it in Access manager.
If you have Active Directory , use Active directory.

the reason for this behaviour is simple.. if you schedule a report with prompts, you must also specify prompt values.

there is a very simple setting somewhere to save hte prompt values. search the cognos knowledge base on how to turn it ON (not off). unfortunately, i can't remember off the top of my head where it is.. but i assure you that it is there.. i don't have access to reportnet at the moment, but i will see if i can find it for you.. but i know it is in their knowledge base..

Thanks misscognos. I did search the Cognos Knowledge Base and came up with Cognos Document # 1006917 (and I quote):

"Description:

When you run a prompted report, the prompt values are already saved.

How can you clear the prompt values so that the prompt is empty when the report is run?

Solution:

When a user has write permission to a prompted report, the prompt values used will be saved.

Therefore, when the next user runs the report, these prompt values will appear be default.

A user with write access to the report can adjust the properties of the report to clear the saved prompt values.

Steps:

1. Log into Cognos Connection as a user with write permission to the report.

2. Click the Properties icon for the report and go to run options.

3. Click Clear beside the saved prompt values.

Note: The functionality of saving a prompt value was changed in Cognos ReportNet 1.1 MR2; with the MR2 version of CRN, prompts are no longer saved with the report."
