Anyone know how I can retrieve data in a subreport and pass it to the main report and yet supress the printing of a line on the report? I have tried all of the suppress and hide options. And the smallest height acceptible is .04.
thanks,

Dear Phil,

You do not provide enough information.

What is the purpose of the subreport (does it run for each row, the entire report, a group ...

What version of Crystal?

Thanks Rosemary...
Crystal v9. The subreport is in the group3 level and provides data for the accummulation of totals for the group. The totals are printed in the group2 footer.

Dear Phil,

The subreport doesn't have to be on a line on it's own, you could try making it a small "box" that you place in the left of where the retrieved data is required.

Thanks again, Rosemary.
I have made the box as small as possible. What do you mean by "to the left of the required data"? I have tried in the subreport to place the data to the right of the "box" with no success. Do you mean in the group footer? I haven't tried that yet...

Dear Phil,

Yes in the group footer.

Hi Rosemary,
I don't think I can place the subreport box in the group footer because I need the accumulations that it performs in the detail line for the totals I am then printing in the footer. The subreport retrieves data from another file which is shared with the main report detail section and is totaled for each group and the entire report.

This may further confuse the issue...
Thanks anyway for your interest.

Change the color of all the fields in the subreport to white!

Daniela

Dear Phil,

I misunderstood. I thought you said the subreport was in the group section.

So you have the subreport in the detail section. Did you create a section and put it there?

Why don't you show a little of the layout of the report, location of the subreport, and what you want to happen. I am a little confused.

regards,

ro

ro,
Sorry, I do have the subreport in a group header. Maybe this will help...

RH
PH
GH1
GH2 - (initialize group2 footer totals)
GH3 - Subreport to retrieve shared data (only need totals)
D - to print detail of data retrieved
GF3 - empty
GF2 - print subtotals of accumulated data for this group
GF1 - print subtotals of accumulated data for this group
RF - print grandtotals of accumulated data

thanks again,
phil

Daniela,
Tried that and still creates white space in the report for each access to the subreport.
thanks,
phil

Try suppressing all sections within the subreport. Then go to the section expert->section the sub is in->check "suppress blank section". Also go to format->subreport->subreport tab->suppress blank subreport.

LB,
Thanks much. The "suppress blank section" in the section expert for the group header containing the subreport was my problem.
