I appologize for this post.
I changed my smb.conf to include

guest account = yes

I already had

map to guest = bad user

I then created a Linux guest account with a blank password and then "smbpasswd -a guest" and gave this a blank password. I turned the guest account on in XP.
I then brought up samba and xsmbrowser.
Xsmbrowser couldn't even find its own machine? I then tried to look at the Workgroup machines on XP but to no avail.

All of this was working fine until I turned on the
guest account = yes

Can someone explain what is happening here please.

Thanks in advance.

OK - spot the deliberate misunderstanding:-

= guest NOT pcguest is what I meant.

Sorry to have wated your time people.
