I was working off of my laptop, not connected to a LAN and attempted create a user group and passwords. I used the wizard and followed the steps. I provided names and passwords for everyone. Now every time I try to open any file with access I get a message that says

LOGON

Name: Automatically supplies my Network Name

Password: Will not accept any password

Receive message "Not a valid account name or password."

WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?? and how do I fix it?

Thanks

you either overwrote the original "system.mdw" file that come with ACCESS or created one and gave it the same name as the database you wanted to use it with. My guess is that you overwrote the system.mdw file.. you need to recreate it.. or copy one from another machine.

If all you used the "System.mdw" file, you can get around this. Simply rename it to "System.old." When you open Access, it should detect the absence of the file and recreate it.

As a side note, it is not advisable to use the Security Wizard. It has been shown to not remove the necessary rights from the Admin and User accounts. This allows someone else with their own copy of a workgroup file and very little effort to break into your system. Do it manually. It is more of a pain, but much more secure.
