Has anyone out there bought/installed the Micros e7 pos? The positouch rep tells me it's unable to do frequent diner & electronic gift cards w/o spending alot of money. The aloha rep tells me it doesn't have sales reporting history beyond 45 days and that Micros' new hardware is unproven. The Micros rep (and demo) seem to contradict the competitors BUT the last time we bought pos we were led to believe certain things that didn't turn out exactly like they stated and those little things did turn out to cost us more money or we simply dediced that the feature wasn't worth persuing. Anyone using the e7?

The resturant i work at has one; and let's say that i am less than impressed with it. The people that installed the system gave me a strong feeling that they recevied a very short course on how to put the thing together and that they knew little about the software(I don't have an IT certification or a degree but i know trouble when i see it). That's when the problems started; first off it uses windows CE as the operating system(and we all know how great that is) then they stuck their software on top of it.
The big problem is that it is very tiwchy, meaning that if you accidentally touch the wrong key during any type of transaction, even clocking in or out, it will do a full scale crash and burn.
Making matters worse, to fix it takes a good deal of time
and in the place where i work at that can mean a long delay in getting the food orders prepared; if that happens we could get very cranky customers. It bugs me that no form of self help(manuals, disks, real support) was provided. It appears that the software micros used in this system was not sufficently tested and as such i feel we are their beta testers.
If anyone is looking at this POS(A fitting acronym) should carefully consider all aspects of the firm that will be putting it in since you will have to depend on it for your day to day operation.

Hi Thor,

Not sure you're still looking into the e7, but it sounds like MADCHEF was using the original version 1.0 software. It tended to be a little unstable, like most products. Since then, version 1.5 has been rolled out and it is just what we wanted!
Don't believe that stuff about 45 days..if you have a PC(which many of our stores already have), the e7 will hold up to 2 YEARS worth of data !! Also, if you have a PC, they do integrated CCards and it's got a nice user interface.

Just saw this post today and thought you could use another opinion...
