After many days and weeks of trying to find the best way to import data from Excel withoug having to purchase and learn a new product, here is the solution I found works best.
1. Create a header row in the Excel document (this will allow you to reference the data quickly on importing and I will touch on this later.)
2. Save each tab as an individual file in "Text 9Tab Delimited)" format.
3. Open Act! and run the Import Wizard. (Alt+F12)
a. Select "Text Delimited" as the file type and point to your saved text file.
b. Select the type of record
c. Select the field seperator "Tab" and CHECK THE BOX THAT SAYS "Yes, import the first record."
d. Do not use a predefined map.
e. Now here is the fun part. Because you left in the first record (which you will remember from earlier is the header line)you can click the single arrow to preview the first record data and you will see what each field is suppost to map to.
Now you can create the import map and save it so you can use it over and over again. This will keep you from forgetting what fields go to where and as long as all your excel documents are formatted the same way (with the same info in each column) this will work every time.
